Roselle Man Arrested in Linden for Possession of a Stolen Assault Rifle

Linden New Jersey

A Roselle man was arrested Saturday on weapons charges when he was found in possession of a assault rifle, authorities said.

Police responded to the area of N. Park and Mildred Avenues on a report of a man carrying a rifle to a parked vehicle sometime around 11:20 p.m.

Officers spoke to a citizen who directed them to a residence on the 1900 block of Caroline Ave. After a search of the area, officers could not locate the person or vehicle.

Officers later returned to the area and observed a black Ford SUV parked and running in the driveway of the residence pointed out by the citizen.

Officers spoke to the occupant, later identified as Roland T. Williams, 46, of Roselle, who told them that he was waiting for his brother-in-law.

Officers then shined their flashlights into the rear cargo area of the vehicle and observed the butt of a rifle sticking out of a duffel bag.

After removing Williams from the vehicle, officers retrieved a Bushmaster AR-15 assault rifle loaded with a high-capacity magazine.

Williams was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of an assault rifle, possession of a high capacity magazine, certain persons not to possess weapons, and possession of stolen property (the rifle was reported stolen during a burglary in East Stroudsburg, Pa.).

Williams is being held on $175,000 bail pending a court date set for March 20th.
