A shots fired incident that had a bullet strike a man in Newark's North Ward is being investigated as an accidental self-infliction.
According to preliminary reports, Newark Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the 700 block of Broadway at approximately 7 p.m.
Units arrived at the scene found a man suffering a non-life threatening gunshot graze wound to the leg according to reports.
The victim was later identified as a retired police officer who reported that the incident was self-inflicted.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. There were no other injuries reported.
