Public Tips Lead to Arrest of Man Wanted for Stillwater Hit-and-Run

Sussex Station troopers yesterday, arrested Derik Amalfitano, 19, of Stillwater, accused of a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a Stillwater man.

Last Friday, March 7, Amalfitano allegedly struck pedestrian George Stiles, Jr., 37, of Stillwater, with his 1992 Honda Accord and fled the scene.

Based on tips from the public, detectives were able to identify Amalfitano as the suspect. 

The investigation revealed that Amalfitano had damage to his vehicle consistent with the Cedar Drive hit-and-run crash.

Amalfitano was charged with assault by auto, leaving the scene of an accident, and endangering an injured victim. 

He was lodged at the Keogh-Dwyer Correctional Facility in lieu of $20,000 bail.
