Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel A. DeMaio announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating a homicide.
At approximately 2:12 am today, Newark Police received a call about an unresponsive man in the 800 block of South 20th Street in Newark. When they arrived on the scene, they discovered a man with an apparent gunshot wound outside on the porch of a residence. Medical personnel were called and the victim was pronounced dead at 2:26 a.m.
At this time, the victim has not been identified but he appears to be a male in his 30s. Information about his identify will be released when it becomes available.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
