Prosecutor's Office in Preliminary Stages of Investigating Early Morning Fatal Shooting in Newark

An early morning  fatal shooting that occured on the 200 block of 4th Street has investigators from The Essex County Prosecutor's Office on the scene gathering evidence. 

The shooting that occured around 5 a.m., sent police and EMS to the scene where they found a man,  (said to be in his late 20's) uncontious and unresponsive. 

The man was taken to University Hospital where he later died. 

A spokesperson for  the Essex County Prosecutor's Office confimred the investigation was in it's early stages and would release additional information if and when it becomes available. 

In an unrelated incident, a shooting that occured in the area of Frelinghuysen Ave. and Vanderpool left a man in his mid 20's seriously injured after reportedly being shot in the leg. 

The shooting that occured around 2:30 a.m. sent police to the area where a crime scene was setup to collect evidence and search for the suspect. 

Newark Police are investigating.
