PROSECUTORS IDENTIFY MAN FATALLY SHOT NEAR SENIOR CITIZEN HOUSINGS

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting in  Newark early this morning, in which  one male was fatally shot shortly before 1:00 a.m this morning. Newark Police responded to a call of shots fired on the 900 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue. Arriving officers located the victim in the vestibule of a residential building at that location. The victim, Gary Anderson, 18, of Newark, appeared to have been shot several times. Anderson was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:32 am. The matter is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is ongoing at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
