Prosecutor: No Bail Reduction for Hillside, Irvington Men After Surveillance Video Surfaces of Fatal Shooting in Newark

Superior Court Judge Ronald Wigler denied bail reduction for Raheem Glaspie, 23, of Irvington, and Shaquan Leaks, 22, of Hillside, after their alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of 24-year-old John Betances on a Newark street was caught on surveillance.

According to Essex County Assistant Prosecutor Naazneen Khan, the fatal shooting of Betances on May 26 was caught on surveillance videos. 

Despite defense's motions to reduce their $1million dollar bail to $750,000 for Glaspie and Leaks.

However, Khan argued the bail amounts should remain at $1 million, saying that both men are flight risks.

In light of the evidence and prior criminal records, among other factors the judge ultimately decided to maintain the $1 million bail for each of the men. 

Bothe men remain in custody at the Essex County Correctional Facility. 

Glaspie and Shaquan Leaks were among 48 people charged in the alleged drug ring that was run by members of the 793 Bloods.

The shooting occurred that killed John Betances on May 26 occurred at 786 South 18th Street in Newark.
