PROSECUTOR IDENTIFIES VICTIM GUNNED DOWN IN NEWARK'S WEST WARD

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Samuel DeMaio have announced that authorities are investigating a shooting in  Newark early Sunday morning, in which one male was fatally wounded. At approximately 4:40 a.m., Newark police officers responded to a shooting call in the area of South Orange Avenue and South 10th Street.  Arriving officers located a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was rushed to University Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead at 5:12 a.m.  The victim has been identified as Suton R. Jones, age 29, of Newark, NJ.
The matter is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department. The investigation is ongoing at this time, according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor's Homicide Unit.
