Newark Police have issued an alert to local law enforcement and citywide units early Saturday morning following the escape of a prisoner en route to Essex County Jail.
The incident, occurring shortly before 12:50 a.m., had sparked a 'person search' for the individual.
The unidentified prisoner, described only as a Hispanic male, managed to elude police during transport, leading to an immediate and extensive search operation.
As of 4 a.m., there were no reports of the prisoner being recaptured.
Authorities worked overnight to track down the escapee, while the circumstances of the escape are under thorough investigation.
