An Elizabeth man who allegedly sold guns to an undercover federal agent was arrested this morning and charged with possessing firearms as a previously convicted felon, U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman announced.
Daniel Bigelow, 27, is charged by complaint with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He made his initial appearance this afternoon before U.S. Magistrate Judge Joseph A. Dickson in Newark federal court and was detained.
According to documents filed in this case and statements made in court:
After obtaining information that he was illegally selling firearms in New Jersey, special agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) conducted controlled purchases with Bigelow. On April 12, 2016, Bigelow allegedly sold a Hi-Point Model 995 9mm rifle and a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver to an undercover federal agent.
At the time, Bigelow had at least one prior felony conviction in Union County Superior Court.
The felon-in-possession of a firearm charge carries a maximum potential penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
