Power Outage at Kean University in Union Results in Class Suspensions, Report of Elevator Entrapment

Several classes at Kean University in Union township have been suspended this morning into this afternoon because of a power outage. 

Students and staff of East Campus, Green Lane Academic Building, STEM,

North Avenue Academic Building, Kean Hall should proceed with their normal schedules.

However, school officials announced that classes in all other academic buildings are suspended until 4 p.m.

The residence halls are safely operating on generator power, with the exception of Whiteman Hall, which is currently being connected to generator power.

Officials added that the residence hall dining hall is open.

Staff should report to their supervisors for further information.

According to School spokeswoman Margaret McCorry, firefighters were called to the school to assist as many as 15 people stuck in elevators.

The outage appears to have occurred sometime around 9:30 a.m. after a blown transformer.
