Rutherford Police, with the assistance of neighboring towns, took a man into custody early Monday morning after he was caught on surveillance camera stashing a large knife under the football bleachers at Memorial Park.
According to preliminary information, the incident unfolded just before 3:30 a.m. when officers monitoring cameras observed the unidentified man acting suspiciously.
Upon closer review, he was seen concealing the weapon beneath the bleachers, prompting an immediate police response.
Law enforcement quickly arrived on the scene, secured the area, and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Authorities have not yet disclosed what the man may have been planning, and his intentions remain unclear.
As of 4:30 a.m., no further details regarding potential charges or the suspect’s identity have been released.
