Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Burglary, Auto Suspect in Newark

Authorities in Newark request the public’s help with identifying the suspect in a burglary that involved a victim’s wallet being taken from a vehicle on January 6, 2024.AdNewark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé said the incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. while the victim was moving items from his residence to his unlocked vehicle, which was parked at the corner of Oliver and Van Buren Streets.

The victim flagged down officers after opening the door to his vehicle, which had been ransacked, officials stated.

Officials said his wallet was missing, containing a debit and credit card, driver’s license, and $50. 

According to officials, on surveillance video, the suspect opened the passenger door and walked away eastbound on Oliver Street toward Pulaski Street.

He was wearing a black jacket, a light blue/grey sweater, dark jeans, and construction boots, authorities say.
