Police chased a suspected wanted for a violent early morning shooting in Newark.
Gunfire rang out at around 1:45 a.m. in the 300 block of North 12th Street sending a large police presence to the scene where they found a male victim shot to the chest at that location.
The victim was rushed to University Hospital where his condition was reported as serious but stable.
A foot pursuit for a person of interest who was seen fleeing the area, had police setup a perimeter around North 11th Street between 2nd and 3rd Ave. where cops reportedly found a weapon and other evidence.
It is not immediately known if a suspect was apprehended as of 4 a.m.
Newark Police are investigating the shooting.
In an unrelated incident, police located a suspect shot in the leg at Clara Maass Medical Center early yesterday afternoon. It was not immediately clear where the suspect was shot at. His injury was not reported as life threatening.
