Police Search for Newark Man Who Allegedly Fired Gun Following Dispute

Authorities are seeking the public’s help in locating Eliasel Baez, 36, of Newark, who is wanted for a shooting that occurred Sunday.

According to police, at approximately 1:02 a.m., Newark Police responded to Wright Street near Frelinghuysen Avenue for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim who was reportedly shot at following a fight. The unidentified victim was not injured as a result of this incident, police added.

Detectives investigating the shooting developed sufficient evidence to identify Eliasel Baez as a suspect in this shooting and obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

Police described Baez as 5’11” tall male that weighs approximately 185 lbs. He has black hair and hazel eyes.

While police are actively searching for Baez, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from the streets.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
