Police Pursuit Ends in Fiery Crash in Newark's Ironbound Section

Authorities in Essex County are investigating a police pursuit that resulted in a fiery crash in Newark's Ironbound section on Friday morning.

According to preliminary reports, police began following a vehicle wanted in connection with a felony homicide when officers made several attempts to get the driver to pull over.

Police say the driver of the car sped away and led officers on a chase that ended when the vehicle crashed, then burst into flames on Ferry and Van Buren just before 12:20a a.m.

The crash damaged about three other cars at that location.

Police say about three suspects bailed from the car and led cops on a foot pursuit through Newark East Ward streets.

Police took one of the suspects into custody while they searched the area for the other men who fled the car.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze.

There were no severe injuries reported.
