Police Pursuit Ends in Crash in Scotch Plains

After a brief pursuit, police took a suspect into custody that ended in the suspect, causing property damage to a home in Scotch Plains Friday afternoon. 

According to a preliminary investigation, police attempted to pull the driver of a car over in the township's southside when the suspect sped away from officers leading law enforcement on a brief pursuit just before 12:10 p.m. 

Police say several minutes into the pursuit, the suspect lost control of the car at the intersection of Rahway Road and Lenape Way, where it crashed through a steel gate and came to rest on an SUV parked in the home's driveway. 

According to police, the suspect bailed from the car and led officers on a brief pursuit in the neighborhood but was captured after a host of police officers from Scotch Plains, The Union County Sheriff’s Office and Fanwood Police arrived at the scene to assist in the incident. 

According to reports, firefighters and other emergency responders checked the crashed vehicle for trapped occupants and fluid spills, which came back negative. 

There were no serious injuries reported.
