Police Investigating Separate Newark Overnight Shootings

A set of shooting that occurred overnight in Newark sent victims to the hospital and police searching for suspects responsible for the crimes.

According to preliminary reports, at around 11:45 p.m., officials from University Hospital contacted police after at least one victim entered the facility's emergency room suffering gunshot wounds.

Police arrived at the hospital and found a vehicle with multiple bullet holes and other damage.

Authorities believe that the victim's vehicle was fired upon by suspects on South Orange Avenue shortly before arriving at the hospital.

There were non-life threatening injuries reported in the shooting.

In another shooting incident, reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of 11th Street and 7th Avenue before midnight sent police to the scene where they found a male victim suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.

EMS transported the victim to University Hospital for treatment.

Police found nearly a half dozen shell casings at the scene and are investigating a motive for the shooting.
