Police Investigating Fatal Branchburg Car Crash

Somerset County officials announced an investigation into a motor vehicle crash that occurred in Branchburg Township.

Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson stated on November 3, at approximately 10:49 a.m. Branchburg Township Police responded to the area of Route 202 North and North Branch River Road for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving two motor vehicles.

Upon arrival, Patrol Officers observed two vehicles with extensive damage which had reached both lanes of travel of US Highway Rt. 202. Both drivers, who were sole occupants of the vehicles, sustained injuries as a result of the crash.

According to officials, Due to the severity of the crash, traffic was diverted from the area for the investigation. Both drivers of the vehicles were subsequently transported to two different area hospitals by emergency medical services due to the extent of their injuries.

One of the drivers, whom authorities have identified as Henry J. Herschell Jr., age 61, Branchburg, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The other driver, whom authorities are identifying as a 49-year-old Flemington resident sustained internal injuries and was being treated at an area hospital.

Prosecutor Robertson stated that the fatal motor vehicle crash is being investigated by Branchburg Township Police along with investigators from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team (CART).
