Residents contacted police when they heard what appeared to be multiple rounds of gunfire erupted in their Newark Central Ward community Monday evening.
Reports of shots fired sent police to the area of Lincoln Street between Doby St. and Eagles Parkway had police and a local armed 'security company' (Strike Force) on the scene at around 6:31 p.m. where officers located evidence that a shooting occurred but no injured victims at that location.
Dozens of residents stood in front of their homes as they watched the Strike Force security team and Newark Police block Lincoln Street in preparation for detectives to process the scene.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
There were no immediate reports of arrests made.
