Police set up a crime scene, that stretched a city block, where detective searched an area for evidence of a shooting and injured victims in a Newark neighborhood on Monday afternoon.
Reports of shots fired that erupted in the area of Central Avenue and South 10th Street had police racing to the scene where first arriving officers quickly checked the area for injuries, then taped off Central Avenue up to 9th Street at around 4:15 p.m.
According to Newark authorities, there were no injuries but officers did find evidence that a shooting had occurred.
The shooting placed several schools in the area in a temporary "shelter in place status" and snarled traffic on Central Avenue as parents rushed to the area to pick up their children.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
There were no arrests reported.
