Police Investigate Robbery in New Brunswick Near Rutgers University Campus

The New Brunswick Police Department (NBPD) is investigating a robbery that is reported to have occurred on Friday, March 11, at approximately 1:39 a.m. on Division Street between Hamilton and Somerset streets in the city of New Brunswick.

According to police, in this incident, the victims, who are not affiliated with Rutgers University, reported that while standing outside of a private residence, they were approached by three male perpetrators who forcefully removed their property. 

Police said that both victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries as one of the victims was struck with a closed fist while the other victim made contact with a sharp object displayed by one of the perpetrators. 

According to police officials, following the incident, the perpetrators fled down Division Street towards Somerset Street.

The descriptions of the perpetrators are limited at this time.

The New Brunswick Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the NBPD's Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.

  • Stay alert and attuned to people and circumstances around you
  • Report suspicious activity or persons to the police immediately
  • Avoid isolated or dark areas
  • Walk in groups when traveling during late night hours
