Police Investigate Reported Late Night Shooting in Newark

A shooting that injured a man in Newark is under investigation.

Police were called to the 600 block of South 11th Street at around 4:15 p.m. this afternoon after receiving reports of a man suffering a gunshot inside an apartment.

Arriving units located the victim (around the age of 50-years-old) who told authorities that he was walking in an unknown location in the South Ward when gunfire rang out, striking him in the hip.

The victim reportedly walked home then called EMS this afternoon after suffering from pain and bleeding.

EMS transported the man to University Hospital where he suffered a non-life threatening graze wound according to reports.

Police searched the area for a crime scene and are continuing to investigate.
