Police Investigate Overnight Shots Fired in Newark

Police in Newark are investigating an overnight shooting that occurred in a neighborhood in the city.

There were no injuries reported after gunfire erupted in the area of West Market Street and 1st Street at around midnight.

Police officers canvassing the scene located vehicles struck by bullets near the McDonalds according to reports.

Hospital's in the area were placed on notice for possible walk-in victims.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

**UPDATE 4:11 pm** The shooting originated in the area of at 6th Ave and 4th in Newark's North Ward. A male driving in the area heard about 5 or more shots fired as he approached the red light. One of the bullets struck the man's vehicle causing him to speed away and seek help at the Orange Street police precinct. When he attempted to ring the door-bell of the precinct, an officer apparently did not understand what he was talking about causing him to find help at the McDonalds where a police officer contacted headquarters. Police found a second vehicle struck by bullets and a house on 4th Street damaged by gunfire.
