Police Investigate Newark West Ward Shooting; Injuries

A male victim who suffered gunshot injuries in the city's West Ward sparked a police investigation after he was self-transported to a Newark hospital overnight.

Police responded to a ShotsSpotter activation that alerted police of gunfire in the vicinity of 79 Valley Street at approximately 11:00 p.m.

Units arrived at the scene and found shell casings and blood evidence, but after a search of the area, no victim was found.

Doctor's treated non-life threatening injuries while police taped off the crime scene in an attempt to determine a motive for the shooting after they gathered evidence.

There were no other injuries reported.
