There were no injuries immediately reported in a shooting that police in a Newark South Ward neighborhood overnight.
Gunfire rang out on Nye Avenue near Goodwin Avenue at around 7:30 pm sending several police units to the scene where arriving officers found about a dozen shell casings at that location.
According to preliminary reports, a suspect inside a silver or light colored vehicle arrived at the area and began to open fire.
Police searching the area found a car that matched the description of the suspected vehicle in the 300 block of Dayton Street.
The vehicle reportedly had at leas one bullet hole in it.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
