Police Investigate Newark North Ward Shooting; Injuries

Newark

An exhausting overnight of shooting violence had police, emergency responders, and University Hospital personnel assisting patients and conducting crime scenes after gunfire mistook as fireworks gripped several neighborhoods in Newark now has police looking into a shooting incident that caused injuries in the city's North Ward.

According to preliminary reports, multiple rounds of gunfire rang out in the 20's block of Crane Street at approximately 10:16 p.m. sending police to the scene where officers arrived to find a male victim suffering a gunshot wound at that location.

As police set up a crime scene in the area, EMS transported the victim to University Hospital where doctors treated the victim's non-life threatening gunshot wound.

Police are attempting to determine if a second victim who arrived at the hospital at approximately 10:30 p.m. suffering injuries consistent with a gunshot wound suffered his injuries at the Crane Street shooting scene.

Police say a black male suspect who wore dark clothing fired the shots before entering a vehicle that sped from the scene.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
