The circumstances behind a confirmed double shooting that occurred in a Newark South Ward neighborhood is under investigation by Newark Police.
According to preliminary reports, gunfire rang out in the 80's block of Huntington Terrace at around 11:02 p.m. sending several police units to the scene where officers made a confirmation of injuries.
One person was transported to Beth Israel Hospital suffering gunshot injuries where doctors began treatment on the victim then listed them in stable condition.
While police investigated at the crime scene, they were informed by witnesses that there was a possible second victim who left the scene by private vehicle after gunfire rang out.
At approximately 11:10 p.m., officials at the University Hospital contacted police when a male entered the hospital's emergency department suffering gunshot injuries.
According to reports, the driver of the vehicle that dropped the victim off at the hospital did not remain.
Family members of the University Hospital victim believe that the male suffered his injuries during the Huntington Terrace shooting incident but police did not officially confirm the circumstances.
A two-door dark colored vehicle driven by a female was observed leaving the scene immediately after the shooting according to preliminary reports.
Both victims remain in stable condition according to authorities.
