Police in Trenton, along with Mercer County officials, are investigating a Saturday morning shooting that left one person injured and sent large crowds scattering in the city’s downtown area.
According to authorities, officers responded around 2:30 a.m. to multiple reports of gunfire in the vicinity of East State Street and East Canal Street.
When police arrived, they encountered a crowd of several hundred people and requested additional units for crowd control.

A section of the area was taped off after shell casings were discovered at the scene. Witnesses told investigators that someone had been shot and left the area bleeding.
While detectives processed the scene and searched for additional victims, officials at a nearby hospital notified police that a gunshot victim had arrived with a leg wound.
The individual is reportedly in stable condition.
