Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding a shooting after an unidentified person arrived at University Hospital Monday morning suffering from a gunshot wound.
Hospital officials contacted Newark Police when the individual entered the emergency department for treatment.
Responding officers launched an investigation and believe the victim may have been shot in the face outside the city, possibly in Union County.
The extent of the victim’s injuries was not immediately confirmed.
Officials said the case remains under active investigation.
