A 26-year-old Elizabeth man was charged with pointing a laser at a news helicopter as it hovered over the scene of the explosion yesterday afternoon.
According to police, a call was received at approximately 5:27 p.m. from the helicopter pilot reporting that somebody had pointed a laser at his aircraft in the area of Edgar Place and Dehart Place.
Responding officers were directed to a house on the 200 block of West Jersey Street, where police arrested Stiven Lopez-Bende.
Lopez-Bende was charged with interference with transportation by utilizing a laser toward an aircraft. He was later released on bail, according to police.
The incident is under investigation by the Elizabeth Police Department and the FBI.
