Kearny

By: Tracie Carter

Over a dozen police units from multiple municipalities were called in early Sunday morning to assist the Kearny Police in breaking up a massive car meetup and party that drew hundreds of people and vehicles to a warehouse location in the town.

According to preliminary reports, officers learned late Saturday night of a large gathering taking place at a warehouse believed to be located at 1016 Belleville Turnpike.

When Kearny units arrived, they encountered a massive crowd and immediately requested mutual aid.

Police departments from Harrison, East Newark, Jersey City, Belleville, and the New Jersey State Police were requested to assist in safely dispersing attendees and clearing the area.

While officers were successful in breaking up the gathering, police later learned that the group planned to relocate to another meetup site in Newark.

Authorities quickly notified Newark Police of the potential follow-up event, reportedly near Empire Street.

There were reports of one person possibly injured in an assault during the incident, though officials have not confirmed the details of that altercation.

The investigation into the unauthorized gathering and related activity remains ongoing.
