Police Chase Down, Arrest Three Armed Teenagers Near Newark Ironbound Park

Three males were taken into custody after a foot pursuit through several Newark's Ironbound streets on Wednesday evening. 

Police said three juvenile males, two 16-year-olds and a 17-year-old, were wanted in connection with two armed robberies that occurred Wednesday. 

A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 5:55 p.m., Newark Police and The Essex County Sherrif's Office attempted to arrest three males who were reportedly armed with a gun in the 50's block of Nichols Street. 

While conducting the investigation, the suspect bolted away from officers and initiated a foot pursuit around Independence Park. 

According to police, the suspects approached a victim at Market Street and Monroe Street and stole his cash and cell phone at gunpoint.

They also used the weapon to rob a second victim at Warwick Street near Jefferson Street, stealing that victim's phone and wallet.

Police located the suspects at Warwick and Adams streets, where they each fled on foot.

According to police, one suspect, who was found in possession of a handgun, was apprehended at Nichols Street near Adams Street.

Another was apprehended at Warwick Street and Jefferson Street.

The third suspect was taken into custody in the 100 block of Van Buren Street. 

Each juvenile faces a charge of robbery, conspiracy, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and resisting arrest.

One of the 16-year-old suspects was previously arrested in January 2021 for receiving stolen property (auto) and CDS possession.

The incident is under investigation.
