Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose announced the arrest of Kejarris Griffin, a 21-year-old Pennsylvania, man for shooting a gun, possession of the gun and possession of the gun for unlawful purposes.
According to authorities, at approximately 2am, police were patrolling when they heard gunfire coming from the 500 block of So 18th Street.
They immediately responded to the area along with detectives from the Department’s Cease Fire Shooting Response Team who spearheaded the investigation.
Officers found a number of juveniles at the scene whose parents were called to pick them up for curfew violations.
Authorities said at this time there is no evidence that anyone was struck by the gunfire.
After tirelessly working the investigation throughout the night, authorities said shooting team detectives developed sufficient evidence to determine that Griffith, who was still at the scene, was the gunman.
Police are investigating the possibility that Griffith was shooting at a black vehicle which fled the scene.
Griffith's bail is set at $125,000 and currently remains in police custody.
The investigation into these incidents is ongoing.
