Police Arrest Paterson Shooting Suspect

Passaic County officials announced that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, Mr. Michael Deas, 25, from Paterson was arrested in relation to a shooting investigation that took place April 18, 2021, in the area of Essex Street and Straight Street in Paterson, New Jersey.

Police said on April 18, members of the Paterson Police Department were dispatched to the area of Essex Street and Straight Street in Paterson, on a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, members of the Paterson Police Department located evidence of a crime scene but were unable to locate a victim.

Officials said a short time later, members of the Paterson Police Department were advised that a 19-year-old male Paterson resident had arrived Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey seeking treatment for a non-fatal gunshot wound.

Based on the investigation Deas was identified as an actor and on April 23, 2021 at approximately 5:25 p.m., he was arrested by members of the Paterson Police Department in the area of 49 N. Main Street, Paterson. 

The State intends to file a motion for pretrial detention that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
