Police Arrest Newark Men for Possessing Drugs, Gun

Police officials in Newark announced the arrest of Mr. Mitch Moody (right), 37, and Demond Cook (left), 28, both of Newark, for possession of a handgun and drugs following the execution of a search warrant on Saturday, December 2nd.

Police said after midnight, officers responded to a robbery call at a residence located on Osborne Terrace near Clinton Avenue. Officers discovered two males, Moody and Cook, inside the home. Responding officers also observed marijuana inside the residence and sought and were granted a search warrant.

After executing the search warrant, police recovered a Black Phantom BB gun, 249 glassine envelopes of heroin, approximately one pound of marijuana, 10 Xanax pills, 15 grams of cocaine and $2,170.00 in proceeds from narcotics sales. Police also confiscated a credit card reader, multiple digital scales, a hydroponic lamp and fertilizer along with mixed packaging bags.

Police charged both men with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, CDS Possession, CDS Distribution and Distribution of CDS Within 1,000 ft. of a School, along with Distribution of a Prescription Legend Drug.

These charges are merely accusations.

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
