Police Arrest Man Wanted for Newark Shooting

Officials announced the arrest of Lonnie Simmons, 22, of Newark, in connection with a shooting that occurred on Nov. 7th, 2018.

According to authorities, police responded to the 600 block of South 12th Street at approximately 11:40 p.m., where they found a woman injured by gunfire. The victim was ultimately transported to University Hospital for treatment and released.

Detectives investigating this incident developed sufficient evidence to secure a warrant for the arrest of Lonnie Simmons on charges of Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose and Conspiracy.

Police arrested Simmons on Monday without incident.

These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
