Police Arrest Linden Man After Explosion in Cranford

According to police, at approximately 7:06 p.m. the Cranford Police Department received information that an explosion was heard in the area of Raritan Road and Summit Terrace.

Through a joint investigation with the Union County Prosecutor's Office and Linden Police Department, the Cranford Police Department Detective Bureau identified a suspect through surveillance video and eyewitness accounts.

Police say with the assistance of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, the Union County S.W.A.T. Team, the Union County Bomb Squad, the Union County Sheriff's Department, and the Joint Terrorism Task Force a search warrant was executed, on the suspect's home in Linden.

The suspect, Michael Kossup, 26, from Linden, NJ was charged with Possession of Prohibited Destructive Devices (3rd Degree); Possession of Under 50g (Marijuana); and Possession of Paraphernalia.

Police say Michael Kossup was processed at Cranford Police Headquarters and provided with a Union County Superior Court appearance date.
