Police Apprehended TD Bank Robbery Suspect that Attempted to Flee in a Lyft Car

A Police in Hackensack took a man into custody on Tuesday and charged him with Robbing a bank at knife-point then jumped into a Lyft car.

According to police Mr. Drew Hughes, 22, was charged with robbery and weapons possession after Hackensack police pulled over the Lyft car and questioned both the driver and Hughes, police said.

Police say Hughes entered the TD Bank branch and robbed it of more than $1,100 then ran bank.

Witnesses at the bank reported to police that the man entered the bank on River Street just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and pointed a kitchen knife at a teller.

"Hey gimmie the money, big bills only, it's for my daughter," he said, according to police Capt. Peter Busciglio.

"The teller then handed him $600. He then demanded more money, at which point the teller handed him an additional $468," Busciglio said.

Police say Hughes admitted to the armed robbery.
