Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of a 16-year-old male juvenile from Newark Wednesday on charges of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Handgun and Possession of a Handgun for Unlawful Purposes.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday, the police department's fugitive apprehension team took the teen into custody without incident at a Keer Avenue residence.
At the residence, Director Ambrose said police also found a loaded handgun.
Director Ambrose said the teen was wanted in connection with four separate incidents of firing a gun at a group of individuals near the intersection of Jeliff and Avon avenues.
The first incident occurred on April 28th, at approximately 6 p.m., the second incident took place at 11 p.m. on June 12th and the third at 3 a.m. on June 19th.
The most recent incident happened at 1 p.m. on July 23rd Director Ambrose said.
Director Ambrose did not say if any of the shots allegedly fired by the teen injured anyone.
The charges lodged against the young man are mere accusations. The young man is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
