Pit Bull Killed by Police in Union Twp.

A township officer shot and killed a pit bull who reportedly came charging at the officers Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to Shetland Drive for a report of an aggressive pit bull that was loose yesterday afternoon.

Upon arrival, officers found the dog out of the house, acting aggressive and chasing the responding animal control officer and a resident on a bicycle.

After unsuccessful attempts were made by the dog’s owner family, the dog suddenly went charging at the officers through a row of bushes.

At which time, an officer fired a single shot, striking the dog in the head.

The critically injured dog was transported to a veterinarian by a family member.

The owner of the dog, who was not present, was issued summonses.

According to police, there have been ongoing problems involving this dog and numerous summonses have been issued in the past.
