On Wednesday, May 3, 2023, Teddy Smith, 42, from Philadelphia, PA, was sentenced to 20 years in New Jersey State Prison for the May 2020 aggravated manslaughter of a 25-year-old Pleasantville man.

According to Pleasantville Police, on May 1, 2020, at approximately 6:20 p.m., officers responded to the 100 block of North First Street in Pleasantville in reference to a shooting.

Police say the investigation determined that the victim, Nathan Adcock, had been shot and was later pronounced dead at AtlantiCare Hospital.

Through surveillance and witnesses, Smith, then 39, was determined to be the shooter.

The investigation took several months, and Smith was charged with homicide in November 2020 and later extradited from Pennsylvania to New Jersey.

According to officials, on March 22, 2023, Smith pleaded guilty to Aggravated Manslaughter.

Authorities say his recommended sentence called for 18-20 years in New Jersey State Prison. Following arguments from both sides on Wednesday, the court sentenced Smith to 20 years in state prison.

Smith must serve at least 85% (17 years) before becoming eligible for parole.

The case was jointly investigated by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office’s Major Crimes Unit and the Pleasantville Police Department.
