Police say a pedestrian lying in the roadway was struck by a vehicle early Saturday morning on a highway in Middlesex County.
According to South Brunswick authorities, the crash happened before 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 1 near Sandhill Road.
Police said they were notified of an injured person lying in the roadway and when they arrived, they found the seriously injured unconscious person.
Police closed Route 1 for the crash investigation.
The condition of the victim was reported as severe.
