Pedestrian Struck, Killed by NJ Transit Train in Spring Lake

NJ Transit Police officials are investigating a train strike that killed a pedestrian on the tracks overnight in Spring Lake. 

At approximately 11:50 p.m.,  NJ Transit Police received reports of an incident involving a pedestrian and a train on the tracks near Ocean Road, according to preliminary information. 

NJ Transit Officials said North Jersey Coast Line train 4398, which departed Bay Head at 11:34 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Long Branch at 12:13 a.m., struck and fatally injured a male pedestrian just before the Spring Lake station.

According to NJ Transit officials, there were no injuries reported to the approximately six customers or crew on board the train.

Officials say this was the final eastbound shuttle train of the night from Bay Head to Long Branch 

Transit officials canceled New Jersey Coast Line train #4398 while police investigated the scene. 

New Jersey Transit Police will lead the investigation.
