Pedestrian Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver on South 9th Street in Newark

Police officials in Newark are on the search for the driver of a car that struck a pedestrian in the city's West West Ward then sped away from the scene.

According to preliminary reports, at approximately 7:40 p.m., police were called to the vicinity of South Orange Avenue and South 9th Street to investigate reports of a pedestrian strike with injuries.

When emergency responders arrived, they found the severely injured and semi-conscious adult male lying on the ground after a car struck them kept going.

Police say the impact of the collision caused the victim to be thrown about 50ft away from where the incident occurred.

EMS rushed the man to University Hospital for treatment while police stayed at the scene investigating.

The driver of the car remains at-large.
