New Jersey State Police are investigating a serious pedestrian strike that left one person critically injured early Monday morning on a busy stretch of Interstate 280 in Newark.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the westbound lanes of I-280, just west of Exit 13. Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following reports of a crash involving injuries.
When crews arrived, they located an unidentified individual who had been struck by a vehicle and was suffering from severe injuries.
The victim was treated at the scene before being transported to a local hospital.
As of 4 a.m., authorities had not released information regarding the extent of the person’s condition.
During the investigation, New Jersey State Police closed the left lane of the westbound highway, causing delays in the area.
No additional details were immediately available.
