Paulsboro Police Investigates Shooting That Hospitalized Five

Multiple shootings that sent several people to the hospital on Saturday morning is under investigation in Gloucester County.

According to a statement released by police, four males and one female sustained life-threatening wounds, when a fight broke out at a birthday party early Saturday morning and shots were fired outside an Elks Club at West Buck and Pennline streets in Paulsboro NJ.

The statement said the shootings are believed to be isolated incidents between individuals who knew each other, and there is no reason for concern to the community, said borough Police Chief Vernon Marino.

Borough police were dispatched to the club location at 1:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired.

Police say a male was punched and knocked to the ground outside the Elks Club resulting in gunfire erupting.

According to police, three males and the female victim were wounded by gunfire.

A male suffered injuries while escaping from the scene but was not shot. All of the victims were transported to Inspira Hospital in Woodbury and Cooper Medical Center in Camden NJ for treatment.

Those attending the party were from several communities in Gloucester and Salem counties.

Police say based on the discovery of multiple types of shell casings at the scene, they belive that more than one shooter was involved in the incident.

The incident is under investigation by the Paulsboro Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office and no arrests were reported.
