Paterson Shooting Suspect Arrested

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Troy Oswald announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Delsean Pinchom, 20, of Paterson, was arrested on Apr. 17th, in connection with a shooting investigation that took place January 10, 2017 in the area of Godwin Avenue in Paterson.

Authorities charged Pinchom with Aggravated Assault, Second Degree, Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree.

According to officials, on January 10, 2017, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Godwin Avenue and located a 24-year-old Paterson man who sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment.

Investigating detectives subsequently identified Pinchom as a suspect in the shooting and arrested him on Apr. 17th in the area of Summer Street in Paterson.

The sentencing exposure on Second Degree Aggravated Assault is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with 85% of that term to be served before parole eligibility pursuant to the No Early Release Act, three years parole supervision thereafter; on Second Degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 3 1⁄2 years before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves Act; and on Second Degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose it is 5-10 years New Jersey State Prison with a minimum of 3 1⁄2 years before parole eligibility pursuant to the Graves.

Authorities said Delsean Pinchom is scheduled to appear at Central Judicial Processing on Apr. 18th at 1:30, p.m. The State intends to file a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
