Paterson Residents Call for Peace After Another Shooting Causes Injuries; Sixth Person Shot in 24-Hours

Paterson

Paterson residents are calling for peace as police investigate the motive for the 6th person found shot in less 24 hours in the city Sunday morning.

According to authorities, at approximately 3 a.m., police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the vicinity of 239 Summer Street.

When police arrived at the scene, they found evidence that a shooting occurred but after canvassing the area no victim was located.

Police say the unidentified person was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital by private vehicle in stable condition.

Detectives from the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office canvassed the neighborhood in search of other victims and possible suspects.

Residents around the city are calling for an end to the senseless violence that has gripped Paterson in the last several days.

“A couple of days ago, someone was shot and killed less than a block away from St. Joseph’s Hospital and then a few days later, (Saturday) another shooting injured a man in the same area. Something has got to give,” a Summer Street resident said.

“A lot of the shootings have been in the middle of the day, you know. We had a drive-by shooting a few weeks ago here right in front of our where we’re standing now, you know right in the middle of the day”, residents said.

The Passaic County Prosecutor's Office will lead the investigation into all six of Paterson's shootings.

“This is too much, your kid can’t even come outside, sit on the porch; you can’t even walk to the grocery store,” residents said.

Authorities reported five people shot in two separate shootings Saturday morning.
