Paterson Man Indicted in Relation to 2020 Fire that Displaced Five

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes announces that Ertugrul Abaci, 58, of Paterson, has been indicted in relation to a June 9, 2020 fire that occurred at 431 Sussex Street in Paterson, that displaced five residents.

A Passaic County Grand Jury has returned an indictment, charging Mr. Abaci with two counts of Second-degree Aggravated Arson and one count of fourth-degree Creating a Risk of Widespread Injury for his involvement in that fire.

A Superior Court Judge previously granted the State’s motion for the pretrial detention of the defendant. He is currently detained in the Passaic County Jail pending the disposition of this case.

Mr. Abaci is scheduled for arraignment on April 9 before the Honorable Joseph Portelli, J.S.C.
